Duncan Sussfeld trained in computer science at ENS Paris-Saclay before converting to bioinformatics in his final year of pre-doctoral studies, motivated by his keen interest in evolution. After a Master's internship aiming to find divergent groups in metagenomes, he is now doing a PhD under the shared supervision of Eric Pelletier (Génoscope, CEA) and Philippe Lopez, in collaboration with Eric Bapteste. His PhD research focuses on developing novel large-scale network tools to identify the elementary components of genes being exchanged in recombination events within and between genomes, and understand the underlying combinatorial processes governing these components.
